Tail lift servicing and preventative maintenance

Regular servicing can identify wear and developing faults before they lead to downtime. The inspection and servicing scope depends on the equipment and its condition, but may include:

  • Hydraulic systems, hoses, pipes, cylinders, connections, fluid levels and leaks
  • Electrical wiring, switches, controls and emergency functions
  • Lubrication of moving components; pivot points, pins, bushes and mounting brackets
  • Platform condition, structure, safety devices and warning labels
  • Operational testing and identification of defects

This service is suitable for delivery vehicles, commercial vehicles, haulage and distribution fleets, and operators who need a clear record of maintenance.

LOLER thorough examinations and reports

A LOLER thorough examination checks the lifting mechanism, structure, hydraulics, controls and safety systems. After the examination, you receive a Report of Thorough Examination recording the findings, defects and any follow-up actions.

  • Goods-only tail lifts are generally examined at intervals not exceeding 12 months.
  • Tail lifts used to lift people are generally subject to six-monthly examinations.
  • Different intervals may apply under an examination scheme drawn up by a competent person.
  • A LOLER thorough examination is separate from routine servicing and repair work.

Tail lift repairs and fault diagnosis

Ben Owen Services can investigate mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults, including lifting failures, hydraulic leaks, damaged wiring, worn pins and bushes, defective hoses, damaged platforms and intermittent operating faults. The next step is to assess the equipment and explain the work needed before repair work is agreed.

  3. The tail lift is inspected or examined, with attention to its mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and safety systems as appropriate.

  5. Agreed servicing or repairs are completed, with clear service information for your records.

Planned maintenance and combined visits

Mobile work can be carried out at your premises wherever practical. Planned maintenance can be tailored to a single vehicle or a fleet, helping organise servicing and identify developing faults. Where vehicles have both a tail lift and a roller shutter door, ask about coordinating roller shutter door servicing during the same visit. Availability, access and the work required will determine what can be combined.
